 Devine company

Homeward I walk in the night

On a path by fire flies lit,

underbrush licks my ankles,

castor seeds feel my under-feet

And the raw smell of fertility

of my motherland tickles my nostrils.

Oh, and the moon overhead

Winks tirelessly down at me

Through an endless crisscross of twigs.

Like a smitten lover behind a picket fence,

So the shy smile of the baby moon.

Stolen from reality,

I am loving the moon back,

dancing with the crickets,

 howling with the wolves;

suddenly- I arrive

 And behold,

the marvels of a generous jacaranda!

The blessing it does bring:

embellishes my humble yard in purple;

a litter of flowers, not just a couple!

And into my hut sneaks

in good measure a rare perfume.
